Icons of Filth - "People Are Real"

from AGE OF SHADOW (a benefit compilation) by South London Scum Collective

People Are Real is the first track Icons of Filth have released since Nostradamnedus in 2002.

Sadly, very little has improved since. Free market economies devalue human existence to the point where people are seen as mere sacrificial offerings in favour of the worship of gross national product and other capitalist gods. The song is a protest against the structural disempowerment and demonisation of people, usually the most vulnerable, across the planet.

People Are Real

Classified and categorised
Defiled and dehumanised
Sold and objectified
We’re enslaved and terrorised

Money is a concept
Borders are a construct
Debt is a con-job
But people are real
People are real
People are real

Austerity kills – can’t pay the bills?
No hospital bed – guess who’s dead
Our reason for living has been robbed
By cheap labour and bullshit jobs

Babies dead on the tide
Responsibility tossed aside
It’s human misery for sale
This stack of cards is set to fail

Chorus x2
